Teeth whitening is a great option after Invisalign or braces because everyone has a straight smile when they’re done. And once you have a straight smile, the next thing everybody wants is a whiter smile, right? It’s like the stages of orthodontics. You get the straight teeth, now you want the whiter smile.
So after we take off the braces and we give them the retainers, we always like to do a whitening treatment on our patients, meaning they get a treatment for an hour where the teeth brighten in shade. And then we also send them home with a teeth whitening kit so that they can whiten their teeth at home in case they have a certain event or a party they want to go to. Fresh teeth whitening is better than over-the-counter products because we have stronger materials that make the teeth whiter.
With over-the-counter, you may be getting a material that whitens your teeth, but it’s not lasting as long or it’s not as strong to give them the whiteness that the patient wants. Before we start braces, I always like to tell the patients that we have to make sure they’re brushing really good because if you don’t brush good when you take off the braces, there always can be a white spot that sometimes can’t be removed. In our office, we actually like to brush the teeth for the patient.
So when they come in, we actually sit and clean their teeth for them so that way in case they miss a few spots, we’re cleaning that all up so that way they have a less chance of getting those white spots.
